According to reports, the new AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, surpasses its predecessors with enhanced capabilities in understanding complex instructions and interpreting visual data such as charts and graphs. It also exhibits improved humor capabilities. Notably, the app processing speed of Claude 3.5 Sonnet is twice that of its predecessor, Claude 3 Opus, while costing only one-fifth as much.
The company stated in a blog post, “It shows significant advancements in capturing nuances, humor, and handling complex explanations, while excelling in writing high-quality content with a natural, relevant tone. It can also write, edit, and execute code.”
In overall performance tests covering reading, programming, mathematics, and visual comprehension, Claude 3.5 Sonnet not only significantly outperforms Claude 3 Opus but also slightly edges out competitors like GPT-4o from OpenAI and Google’s Gemini 1.5 Pro.
Anthropic, founded by former senior research executives from OpenAI, has garnered support from tech giants such as Google, Salesforce, and Amazon. Over the past year, Anthropic has completed five funding rounds totaling approximately $7.3 billion.
Earlier in March, Anthropic launched its Claude 3 series models, while OpenAI released GPT-4o in May. Anthropic emphasizes that Claude 3.5 Sonnet is faster than its predecessors and is the first model in its newly introduced Claude 3.5 series.
Affordable Pricing
Regarding costs, Anthropic announced that Claude 3.5 Sonnet is currently available for free on their company website Claude.ai and the Claude iPhone application. Subscribers to Claude Pro and Team can also access the latest models at higher rates. Additionally, it is available through the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
Moreover, pricing for the new model remains consistent with its predecessor, Claude 3 Sonnet, at $3 per million tokens for input and $15 per million tokens for generation, with a context window of 200,000 tokens, approximately 150,000 words.
New Features
In conjunction with the model launch, Anthropic introduced “Artifacts” on Claude.ai, a new feature that enhances user interaction with Claude. When users request Claude to generate code snippets, text documents, or website designs, these Artifacts appear in a dedicated window next to their conversation. This creates a dynamic workspace where users can view, edit, and build upon Claude’s creations in real time, seamlessly integrating AI-generated content into their projects and workflows.
Anthropic expects Artifacts to facilitate tasks such as code development, legal contract drafting and analysis, and business report writing.
Current Landscape and Future Outlook
With startups like Anthropic and established players like OpenAI shaping the generative AI landscape, they are competing alongside tech giants such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta in the AI arms race. Experts predict that the market size for generative AI will exceed $1 trillion over the next decade.
